Sports education major of Henan University was founded in 1960. It was rated as the only provinceical-level sports prestigious (special) major in 2006, and it was approved to be a national special major in 2010.. Ball teaching group and sports skills teaching team won the excellent teaching team of Henan province, perspectively, in 2007 and 2012.

This major has national, provincial and university-level high-quality courses, video open classes and MOOC courses. The major focuses on the constructin of the education concept with era significance according to the characteristics of this major, builds a curriculum system that emphasizes the training of abilities, focuses on the pertinence, flexibility and diversity of the curriculum, stresses practical teaching and the general improvement of students’ comprehensive qualities, lays emphasis on the revising and improvement of training plan and teaching plan under the guidance of the new teaching concept in order to make it innovative, advanced, consistent, international and operable.

Since the setting up of sports education in 1960, Henan University has been adhering to the teaching concept of “broadening students’ knowledge vision, cultivating students’consciousness of innovation and improving students’ practical abilities”. It has trained a large number of high-level sports professionals and made great contribution to the development of sports in Henan province and even the whole country.
