Henan University is located in the central plains and has the unique Wushu resources. Besides, it has profound accumulation and outstanding achievements in the history of Wushu and national traditional sports professional construction. Since the school of Physical Education of Henan University was established in 1960, the teaching direction of Wushu specialty has been set up.. In 1993, the State Education Commission approved the establishment of Wushu specialty and began to recruit students in 1994, covering more than 20 provinces and municipalities directly under the central government. In 2001, it obtained the master's degree of national traditional sports. In 2007, it began to recruit doctoral students in the direction of “traditional sports theory and practice”. In 2018, the school of physical education has a doctorate discipline and Wushu as a sub doctorate discipline began to recruit doctoral students.Wushu course was approved in 2010 for provincial-level exquisite course. In 2011, the national traditional sports specialty was approved as a provincial-level specialty, which played an important role in leading,driving and promoting the construction and development of Wushu and national traditional sports undergraduate specialty. Over the years, this major has maintained a good development trend. The teaching staff has been growing, the teaching level has been improving and the academic achievements have been steadily promoted, which exert the good influence on the society.
